Ideahack is the first agency that took the time to really understand our work before touching anything. Our search visibility has climbed through the roof from page two to page one, and in one year our monthly website sessions have gone from around 2,000 to almost 9,000. Our Ad Grant finally reaches real donors and program participants, and our team can run the website ourselves. Our digital presence finally reflects the scale of the work our scientists do on the water.

The challenge

Their digital presence didn't match the scale of their work.

The Perry Institute for Marine Science is one of the most important marine conservation organizations in the Caribbean. Their Reef Rescue Network spans 7 countries, 14 islands, and 41 coral nurseries. They run field stations, lead coral restoration research, and train the next generation of marine scientists.

But their digital presence didn't reflect the scale or urgency of their work. Their website needed to communicate complex science clearly, support donation and program goals, and reach audiences across multiple countries and contexts. Their Google Ad Grant was being managed by a previous provider that reported strong spend and click numbers every month, but nearly all of that traffic was going to job postings, volunteer searches, and education downloads, not the donation and program pages that actually needed it.

Our approach

Three pillars: donor engagement, program visibility, scientific credibility.

We started with deep listening: understanding the science, the stakeholders, the programs, and the audiences that PIMS needed to reach. We rebuilt their digital strategy around three pillars, then built the systems to support them.

SEO & Content

Technical SEO audit and content strategy aligned with how donors, educators, and researchers actually search for marine conservation organizations. Organic search impressions to perryinstitute.org are up 56% year-over-year, and their average ranking position has climbed from the bottom of page two to the top of page one.

Google Ad Grant

Rebuilt campaigns from scratch, aligned with PIMS's actual organizational priorities. Replaced traffic that was never going to convert with visitors who actually care about the mission, and keeps the account's click-through rate running around 7–8%, safely above the 5% floor Google requires to keep the full $10,000/month grant active. The account looks smaller than it used to on the surface, and that's by design: it's rebuilt on real donor and program interest instead of cheap clicks that were never going anywhere.

Web Development

Custom blog templates, expedition landing pages, and content systems built for a small team to manage without developer support.

Ongoing Partnership

Monthly reporting, quarterly strategy reviews, and proactive recommendations. When we found a bug quietly preventing completed donations from ever reaching Google's tracking, we traced it, fixed it across every giving campaign, and confirmed it was reporting correctly, the kind of problem a task-list agency never goes looking for.

The work

An extension of their team, not a vendor.

Working with PIMS isn't a typical agency engagement. It's an ongoing partnership where we function as an extension of their team. We understand their programs deeply enough to write about coral spawning predictions, expedition logistics, and the nuances of reef restoration across different Caribbean geographies.

That depth of understanding is what separates mission-aligned digital strategy from surface-level agency work. When you actually understand what an organization does and why it matters, every decision gets better: which keywords to target, what content to create, how to structure a landing page, and what success actually looks like.
